You are free to unenroll from DEDP course sessions on the MITx Online platform at any time. However, the process for unenrolling will differ depending on the enrollment track—Audit (free) or Verified (Paid)—and the consequences of unenrolling will differ depending on when it occurs. Please carefully review the following information:
Please Note: If you considering whether to unenroll from a DEDP course that you plan to take in a future term, you are welcome to remain enrolled in the current term on the Audit track—even if you do not plan to participate in the course actively. The DEDP program allows and encourages learners to take the online courses as many times as they wish. You are free to get a head-start on learning the course content at your own pace with any time you have available now, and when the course session ends, you will retain access to the Archived course material.
Unenrolling from the Audit (Free) Enrollment Track
How to Unenroll
In order to unenroll from a course, navigate to your MITx Online Dashboard, find the course session you wish to unenroll from, click the options button (⋮) in the top right of that course's box, and click "Unenroll".
Note: You may see more than one session of a specific course on your Dashboard. Be sure that you know which course session you are unenrolling from. You can tell multiple sessions of the same course apart by noting the start date, below the course title—for instance, one session may have started "from October 5, 2021" as in the screenshot below, while another may have started "from September 6, 2022".
The unenroll option may be used at any time for an Audit course session—before the course session has started, after the session has started but before the enrollment deadline, after the enrollment deadline but before the session ends, or after the end of a course session.
PLEASE BE WARNED: Clicking the "Unenroll" option will immediately unenroll you from the selected course. There is no warning or confirmation dialog—you will be unenrolled.
Unenrolling from the Verified (Paid) Enrollment Track
How to Unenroll
If you have submitted payment for a DEDP Course Session to upgrade to the Verified (Paid) enrollment track, then you cannot unenroll yourself using the platform. You must reach out to DEDP Support at dedp-micromasters-support@mit.edu.
Please be sure to include the following information along with your un-enrollment request:
- Your full name
- The email address associated with your MITx Online Account
- The full title and start date of the course session you wish to be unenrolled from
After confirming your information and un-enrollment request, we will perform the necessary steps to unenroll you from the course session.
Un-enrollment Timing and the Refund Eligibility Window
If you request to be unenrolled from a Verified (Paid) DEDP course session within your refund eligibility period for that course session, you will receive a refund of the course fee. The refund eligibility period is either 14 days after your date of payment or 14 days after the start date of the course session for which the payment was made, whichever comes later.
If you request to be unenrolled from a Verified (Paid) DEDP course session outside of your refund eligibility period, you will not receive a refund of the course fee. For more information about refunds, please refer to this FAQ article.
Consequences of Unenrolling
If you unenroll from a course session and later wish to re-enroll, you may not be able to do so. If the enrollment deadline for a course session has closed, it will not be possible to re-enroll for the course session that you have just left. Generally, this means that you would need to enroll in a future course session instead.
However, if you feel that you were unenrolled from a course session in error—for instance, if you accidentally unenrolled yourself—please reach out to DEDP Support at dedp-micromasters-support@mit.edu for assistance as soon as possible.
If you unenroll from a course, you will not receive Archived access to that course session when the session closes.
If you complete some of the coursework in a course session before unenrolling, and you later re-enroll in a future session of that course, you will need to re-complete all coursework—including any work that you completed during your aborted session—in order for that work to count towards your Course Score. Each offering (session) of a course is assessed independently. Neither individual coursework, individual coursework scores, nor course payments are transferable across course sessions.
