Yes! You are welcome to enroll in one or more DEDP courses for free as an Audit learner, and then take the course again in a future session on the Verified/Certificate (Paid) track to sit for the Proctored Final Exam and earn the Course Certificate.
Learners are welcome and encouraged to take DEDP MicroMasters courses as many times as they wish to achieve their target scores. It is not a violation of the Honor Code to enroll in multiple sessions of the same course—as long as they do not run concurrently.
If you intend to pursue this path, please carefully review the information and instructions below to ensure you understand the process.
Reminder: Since September 2022 payment for DEDP MicroMasters courses is tied to the course session for which it is submitted. When you submit payment to upgrade your enrollment in a DEDP MicroMasters course, you become eligible to sit for the Proctored Exam at the end of that specific term only. You should be sure that you intend to sit for the Proctored Exam in a session before submitting payment. However, exceptions can be made in extenuating circumstances, at the discretion of the DEDP Team.
How Do You Take a DEDP MicroMasters Course and Pay For It Later to Earn the Course Certificate?
Step 1: Enroll in an available session of a DEDP MicroMasters course on the Audit (free) track
Participate in the course session, master the Course Material, and complete the Coursework to achieve the highest Coursework Score possible.
Audit learners experience the same Course Material, Coursework Assignments, and Assessments as Paid learners—except for the Final Exam. Audit learners are not eligible to sit for the Proctored Exam at the end of the course session or earn the Course Certificate.
Step 2: Re-enroll in another session of the course and upgrade to the Certificate (Paid) track
When you're ready, enroll in another session of the course and submit payment of the Course Fee before the Payment Deadline. You will need to wait until the end of the course session to sit for the Proctored Exam. For more information about submitting payment to upgrade your enrollment, please see this FAQ article.
The DEDP MicroMasters Program uniquely allows learners to combine their Coursework Score and Proctored Exam Score from different course sessions, so you are not required to re-do all of the Coursework in this second course session. However, you may re-do the Coursework, if you choose to (for example to try for a higher Coursework Score than you've already achieved).
Important Note: Coursework Scores are not automatically transferred. You must follow specific instructions to request a score transfer. For more information about how to transfer your Coursework Score to a new DEDP course session, see this FAQ article
Step 3: Sit for the Final Exam and earn a passing Total Course Score to earn the Course Certificate
At the end of the course session, sit for the course's Proctored Final Exam. The Proctored Exam Score you achieve, combined with the Coursework Score you achieved—either in this course session (if you chose to re-do the Coursework) or in the first course session (if you chose to transfer your scores)—will determine whether you pass the course.
If you achieve a passing Total Course Score, you will be awarded the Course Certificate! For more information about how scores work, please see this FAQ article.
